Storm’s Heart (Elder Races #2)
Penguin, August 2, 2011, $7.99 print & digital
Able to wield thunder and lightning, Wyr sentinel Tiago Black Eagle has ruled the skies for centuries. His massive build and thunderous power make him one of the wyr’s best weapons. And he’s the one sent to protect Tricks, heir to the Dark Fae throne, when she’s almost assassinated in Chicago. Soon Tiago and Tricks will fall prey to the stormy hunger that engulfs them—a passion that will shake the very foundation of all the worlds.
Thea Harrison’s Storm’s Heart is the second book in her phenomenally sexy paranormal romance series centering on sexy alpha shapeshifters and the very strong woman who love them. Filled with plenty of action, romance, and humor, this series has been an instant WIN-WIN for me.
Tricks, aka Niniane, is ready to claim her birth right as the heir to the Dark Fae throne. Tricks’s family was assassinated when she was young; only through sheer luck was she able to escape with her life and plead sanctuary with the Wyrs. Now the time has come to reveal herself and claim what is hers. Butnot everyone is happy she is alive. When the wyrs learn of two attempts on her life, wyr sentinel Tiago is sent to protect Tricks and deliver her safely to the throne.
Tiago is a Wyr. Part of a long existing race, Tiage was once a God, worshipped by many and now works security for Cuelebre Tower. His nature is the thunder bird and the weather is his to shape and control. Tiago is a true bonafide alpha, protective of what he considers his. And he considers Tricks to be his.
“He would have her. He wouldn’t stop stop or rest until he did... This fixation he had developed for her was beyond insane. It was incomprehensible, a recipe for a perfect storm disaster.”
He is the most dangerous of the Wyr sentinels. Methodical and steady, he hunts his prey with a steadfast resolve without ever entertaining the notion he might fail. And the same applies when he decides Tricks is the girl for him: He does not doubt he will capture her as he has all his prey:
“Niniane, we’re going to become lovers, so we’re got time. That’s all the reality you need to know.”
Tricks has always had a love/hate relationship with Tiago. They are the perfect mix of oil and water. When he says, “jump,” she gives him the finger. Tricks is a self-professed ‘girly girl’ who has no time for a rugged Neanderthal guy used to giving orders and having them followed. She has a kingdom to run...just as soon as everyone stops trying to kill her. But fate is a fickle woman, and even though their respective races claim they cannot be together—when has that ever stopped true love?
I absolutely loved Tricks and Tiago. Tricks is the perfect match to Tiago’s over alpha need to protect. She balances and challenges him in a way that no-one else has ever done before. She gives as good as she gets and their relationship is hilarious as he tries to get her to accept him as her mate.
“What the hell are you wearing???”
“I look pretty!”
“You look half naked.”
“So what are you going to do about it? Spank me?”
“Sure. That works.”
“I take it back. I want a do over.”
Tricks loves Tiago, despite his dominating personality but she makes him work hard at convincing her that she and he are the perfect match in and out of bed.
“I know I’m a high maintenance girlfriend.
“Fuck yeah. The highest. You need a whole staff of full time employees. I just realized I’m not kidding.”
Yet, even when he is at his most domineering, you see a side of him with Tricks that melts your heart and lets you and she know that Tiago is there for her. He sees her. He hears her. He feels her. She is his everything.
“You will never lose me, fairie...I love you too much.”
The ending is incredible, leaving us hanging with a cliffhanger concerning Rune, who’s the hero of the next book in the series, Serpent’s Kiss, out October 4, 2011. Any paranormal fan who enjoys plenty of action, suspense, humor, and sizzling romance will love Harrison.
