Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark-Hunter series is still my favorite series of all time, so what better way to share my love than to do my top six Dark-Hunter heroes and heroines? August is just so far away. Come on, Retribution. I’m in withdrawal, I tell you!
We are Darkness. We are Shadow.
We are the Rulers of the Night. We, alone, stand between mankind and those who would see mankind destroyed. We are the Guardians. The Soulless Keepers. Our souls were cast out so that we would not forewarn the Daimons we pursue. By the time they see us coming, it’s too late.
Acheron (Ash) - Though he is destined to bring about the end of the world, Ash is the force behind the Dark-Hunters. Ash is the first Dark-Hunter ever created, and he takes his role as leader seriously. What can I say about Ash that already hasn’t been said? He was created as the perfect specimen of man. Isn’t that enough? Really, I can’t say enough about how great of a character Ash is…so I’ll stop now.
“There are always three sides to every memory…yours, theirs, and the truth, which lies somewhere in between the two”
First Seen in: Night Pleasures (Book 1)
Xianara (Simi) – Simi, which means “baby demon” in Charonte, is Ash’s demon companion. She can manifest herself as a demon, human, or as a tattoo on Ash’s body, but is most often found with a credit card and BBQ Sauce watching QVC for new shinys to buy. Yes, she’s a demon, but the Simi is on the good side because she fights the good fight….with BBQ sauce.
“The Simi has needs. Lots of needs. I need Akri’s plastic card, for one thing. It very nice. People give me lots of stuff when I hand it to them. Ooo, I really like the new plastic card he gave me with my own name on it. It’s blue and all sparkly and it says Simi Parthenopaeus. Doesn’t that have a nice ring to it? I have to say it again. Simi Parthenopaeus. I like that a lot. It even has my picture in the corner and I am a very attractive demon if I do say so myself. Akri says it, too. ‘Simi, you are beautiful.’ I like it when he tells me that.
First Seen In: Dance With the Devil (Book 3)
Nicholas Ambrosius (Nick) – Nick straddles the line between good and bad, hopefully he’ll settle on the good side, but you can never tell with him. In the early days, Nick worked for Kyrian as a Squire, and was Ash’s best friend. Nowadays, Nick is at odds with Ash because he went and slept with Simi, and Ash went a bit nutty. In Nick’s defense, he didn’t know what Simi meant to Ash, but it was too late and Ash cursed him.
Nick ended up taking his own life to become a Dark-Hunter to get his vengeance for the death of his mother. But that’s not the way of the Dark-Hunter, so he was turned over to Ash…yeah, that went well. Nick has since turned to the dark side, but I believe there is hope for him yet!
“Nick, fetch my car, fetch my clothes, sweep the chimney, make my bed, watch my psychopath, fetch my slippers.’ Yeah, I’ll fetch those slippers and stick them someplace real uncomfortable. I swear, my mother should have named me Fido.”
First Seen In: Night Pleasures (Book 1)
Savitar (Sav) – Savitar is a mystery, even more so then Ash. Gods won’t speak his name because they fear him and no one knows what he really is. He is covered in tattoos and is one hell of a surfer—I know, weird, huh? The only thing that is for sure is that Sav will do anything for those he considers worthy. Savitar oversees the Omergrion and helps out the Dark-Hunters when he can.
“Just stand there and be awed by my beauty. It’s the safest mode around me.”
First Seen In: Sins of the Night (Book 7)
Vane – Firstborn of the Kattalakis kids, all six of them, Vane is a Were-Hunter. He was born Katagaria, but changed to Arcadian at puberty. While doing a favor for the Dark-Hunters, Vane’s pregnant sister Anya was murdered, leading his father to turn against him. Vane represents the Arcadian Lykos patria at the Omegrion and through Fang (his brother) the Katagaria branch.
“Can you take human form in daylight?” (Talon)
“Obviously so. Ever tried to answer a phone without opposable thumbs?”(Vane)
First Seen In: Night Embrace (Book 2)
Tabitha (Tabby) – Tabby is the eighth sister of the Devereaux family and Amanda’s twin. Tabby is a self professed vampire slayer and owns Pandora’s Box, an adult shop. Ash made her immortal so she can stick around with her equally immortal sister and husband Valerius Magnus. Prior to being an immortal, she put her life at risk, hunting every night. She doesn’t take shit from anyone—not even Ash.
“Anyone ever tell you you should be a lawyer? (Otto)
“Only Bill when we argue. Besides, I like killing bloodsuckers too much to ever be one of them. Tabitha Deveraux. Pleased to meet you.” (Tabitha)
First Seen In: Night Pleasures (Book 1)
Did I miss anyone? Should I have added Talon or left Nick to the bad guys? Who are your favorite Dark-Hunter heroes or heroines?
