You’ve no doubt noticed music is an integral part of paranormal and urban fantasy heroes and heroines; the Black Dagger Brotherhood has its hip-hop, Laurell K. Hamilton says Tori Amos is “very important to Anita,” and Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series even comes with its own soundtrack.
So wouldn’t it be fun to devise some music for our favorite paranormal badasses?
Timbaland—“Morning After Dark” ft. Nelly Furtado, Soshy
Shapeshifting cats, vampires & the weirdest outdoor rave ever, Timberland kicks it with “Morning After Dark.” It makes you want to dance and sing along: “When the cats come out the bats come out to play, yeah.” That song totally reminds me of V and Butch from J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood.
From the movie Queen of the Damned, this song is awesome but watching Lestat sing it is all out sexy. *Someone hand me a cold cloth!!* Sadly, that is not Stuart Townsend singing but Jay Gordon from the band Orgy; nonetheless, it’s hot in here. Imagine Barrons from Moning’s Fever series singing this song? *throws panties at stage, faints*
Lady Gaga—“Born This Way”
This is all sorts of WTH from unicorns to Zombie Boy, it’s all sorts of Paranormal WTF’ery. Wait, ALL of Gaga is WTF’ery. In the middle of a nightclub, I see Ivy from Kim Harrison’s the Hollows series dancing all alone to this.
My absolute favorite band, they’ve based the video for “Cold” on I Am Legend. I would not want to be anywhere near that house, thank you very much! Declan from Linda Wisdom’s Hex Series is known to blast Static-X in his nightclub, Damnation Alley.
Freaks—“The Creeps”
Why the hell do these female vampires look like skanks? I haven’t the slightest, but the video is entertaining. Mab from Jennifer Estep’s Gin Blanco series seems like she’d be the sort to listen to this.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs—“Heads Will Roll”
You might have heard this song on Glee mixed with Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” but I bet you haven’t seen a breakdancing werewolf before. Yeah, me neither. I think I’m scarred for life. Can you imagine Klay from Kelley Armstrong’s Otherworld Series dancing to this? *Giggles*
ZZ Top – Breakaway
Who would have figured ZZ Top would have a paranormal video? Even better: Fairuza Balk is in the video, remember her? She was in The Craft, and I swear she’s always what I picture when I think female vampire! I’m thinking Jeaniene Frost’s Bones would be just the type of man to enjoy ZZ Top, what do you think?
Michael Jackson—“Ghosts”
This has to be one of the most amazingly done music videos, but aren’t all of MJ’s this awesome?
Rob Zombie – Dragula
Yeah, “Dragula.” It was done to death in the ’90s, an oldie, but a goodie it still is! Eric Northman from Charlaine Harris’s Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire series would totally be blasting this at his club, Fangtasia.
Queens of the Stone Age – Burn the Witch
Little girl witches make me smile, please don’t burn them! Rachel Morgan from Kim Harrison’s Hollows series, anyone?
What videos or songs do you think your favorite PNR or UF character would be singing along to?
