Black Dagger Brotherhood Fantasy Casting—For Real!

Chip NicolasGreat minds think alike! Turns out while we were doing a Black Dagger Brotherhood Fantasy Casting feature, people on Facebook were joining the group We Want A Black Dagger Brotherhood Movie or Television Series.

Folks in that group are posting pics of their suggestions to play Zsadist, Bella, Wellsie, Vishous, John Matthew et al.; we’re just psyched we get to look at such pretty pictures on Facebook, when we’re usually there eyeballing someone’s cute cat.

ok, I don't have hbo etc, but if the brotherhood made it to tv, I would find a way to get whatever channel it was on! YUMMY!!!

So where does one actually find a six-foot-seven hunk o' man? I don't think they actually exist! Create them in CGI?

I've thought long and hard about making BDB into a movie or series...and I've come to the conclusion it can't be done well enough to suit the real fans. As zebrareader mentioned, where would you get six and a half foot deliriously gorgeous, alpha men to play these parts? Hollywood is filled with popular short men and women and I couldn't stand to see Wrath or any of the others portrayed by these actors. And I don't think any man could match my impressions of the brothers. I'd just as soon lock them away in my heart and mind, contemplate their beautiful faces, bodies, hearts, and souls. Unless JR had complete control over the production (and I doubt that would ever be allowed), both the brothers and their stories would be changed in a way that would be unpalatable and maybe unforgivable to me. So, no, I don't want to see the series butchered by Hollywood.

The guy in the picture, Niko, has always been my choice to play V. I don't know if he can act though. For Rhage it's Paul Walker. That's as far as I've gotten. I don't think the books will ever be made into a movie(s). I agree with KathleenC. There's no way the author can have complete control of everything. And I feel unless she retains a lot of that control Hollywood will wind up doing it their way.

So ....how bout Vin Deisel as Zsadist, Jason Mimosa (Thrones) as Rhage, and Gerard Butler ( in " 300" shape of course) as Butch and I'm sure we could find a way to dye Andy Whitfield's locks blonde so he could play Wrath?.... I could definitely watch a BDB movie with that stellar cast ;-)

I've had various discussions with friends who are fellow readers of the BDB series and we've decided there are no actors in Hollywood that could actually pull off the brothers. Perhaps I could see Jason Momoa (new Conan the Barbarian) as one of the brothers but we aren't just dealing with looks, we need men who can pull off the attitude and swag that the brothers have and I just don't see that happening. I'd love to see them brought to life but I think it would be done better in CGI, then Hollwood would only have to search for voices. I think CGI would be a great option. Just my two cents. :-)

I think that in order to really do a good BDB movie or series, you'd have to cast mostly unknowns or little-known actors. That being said, it is good to pick actors in a fantasy casting who look a lot like what you'd want the characters to ask for.
In response to the hieght/hunk factor everyone says is a problem: almost all actors are under 6'. However, filmmakers get very creative in making actors look taller than they really are, by simple cinematography and lighting tricks, so don't worry about whether those casted are actually of accurate hieght.

As for my casting ideas:
Jensen Ackles as Rehvenge
Mara Rooney as Xhex
Taye Diggs as Trez or iAm
Wentworth Miller as Zsadist/Phury
Tom Felton as Pretrans Lash
David Gandy as Vishous
Amanda Seyfried as Layla
Channing Tatum as Qhuinn
Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Saxton
Paul Bettany as Mr. X
Sarah Lancaster as Beth

Going on looks and height Aleks Paunovic as Vishous as he's 6ft 5" and pretty big. I think there are plenty of tall actors out there if in the event there was to be a BDB TVseries (which I think we do more justice than a movie) I agree with casting unknown actors instead of limiting choices to A & B list actors, plus I'm sure there are some basketball players who may want to dabble in some acting.

I can see Joe Manganiello - Alcide from True Blood as Rehvenge or one of the brothers and Desmond Harrington as Butch.

i am in agreement for a film, but i really don't think they could live up to my picture's in my mind's eye, i prefer to think of them as i have them up there, i alway's find the movie after the book a let down. if i know there will be a movie i don't read the book first. but what a fantastic mind the author has absolutely amazing, thank you J.R. Ward, i love the books the vampire's and thier shellans.

The series would do so much better as a tv series. I feel like they'd be able to honor much more of the story if they gave if the HBO treatment rather than taking it to theaters.

Plus it'd be a great way to tap talent from across the world seeing as the bdb guys are ambiguous in race/nationality, etc

Oh i am the biggest fan of this series! I am so in love with the story as well as the charaters .... there is def enough tall beautiful men to make this wonderful sereies come to life, i think that if these books were brought to life and wasnt changed by the movie producers that it would take over all tv shows or movies... if twilight can have so much fame these movies would blow that out of the wate!s i do agree thatthe charaters would be hard to create but def not impossible! If they wanted to try they have my vote, even if its not perfect as it is in my mind i would still be hooked and watch every min with a smile! I say gofor it, lights camera action! Its showtime!

I don't know about you guys, but I only found two actors that I can see as Brothers: Jason Momoa as Wrath and David Gandy as Vicious.
I really don't want to see a movie or a TV series (if they ever make them) 'cause I know I'll be really dissapointed. I know that nothing will be as I imagined.
