Madonna FTW! (But Not in Alexander McQueen)

When we're not talking romance novels, we're critting clothing (what—you thought we read historical novels for the history?), so last night's Met Gala, which honored the late Alexander McQueen and opened the Savage Beauty exhibit, gives us the chance to indulge our other passion: fashion.

(Perhaps all the attendees thought that Kate Middleton wore McQueen best, having chosen his designer Sarah Burton to design her wedding gown, because it seems very few of the stars in attendance actually wore McQueen.)

And, one has to say, it's kinda sad when the best-dressed woman at the whole shebang is Madonna, she who wore this in 2009 (can someone say mutton dressed as lamb?)

But this year, Madonna takes a more demure approach, wearing the Vionnet-inspired gown by Stella McCartney. It's gorgeous. Its only similarity to 2009's debacle, in fact, is that both are blue:

And the back is even more lovely.

The contenders for Worst Outfitted could include Christina Hendricks, Andre Leon Talley, Freida Pinto, Beyonce, Iman, Jennifer Lopez...the list goes on an on.

Meanwhile, we'll wish a) that we could afford this gown and b) we had somewhere to wear it.

I loved Madonna's dress - but then I read online that she reportedly told someone covering the event that she felt "fat" in it. ::headdesk:: Oh to have that problem!

I agree with you on Iman, and it pains me to hate on her because she's so insanely breathtaking. To think she's 55. It boggles the mind.

@WendyCrutcher--I read that about Madonna, too. WTH, lady?

And Iman looked like Deney Terrio from Dance Fever. And not in a good way.

It's a sad day for fashion when Madonna is one of the best dressed women at the Met Gala. There were a few others, Sarah Jessica Parker who actually wore Alexander McQueen, Diane Kruger, Gwyneth Paltrow. I was amazed though how many people were wearing Stella McCartney. It makes you wonder if she's going to take over Alexander McQueen if Sarah Burton goes to Christian Dior as is rumored.
