For the Love of...Romeo and Juliet?

Maria and Tony from West Side StoryWord from Hollywood is that another remake is in the works for Romeo and Juliet, this time starring True Grit's Hailee Steinfeld as Juliet, Gossip Girl's Ed Westwick as Tybalt, and—Romeo has yet to be cast (who would you cast as Romeo? My choice would be Ian Somerhalder, but that's just 'cause he is foxy-hot).

Perhaps most intriguing to us adults is that Downton Abbey scribe Julian Fellowes is writing the script; that makes sense, since Fellowes seems to be fascinated by the collision of culture, whether it's between upper and lower classes, nouveau riche versus old money, or now Montagus against Capulets.

What is your favorite version of Shakespeare's famous tragedy?

My favorite has to be Zeffirelli's 1968 version starring Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting. She was ethereal and lusty at the same time, and a laugh seemed to lurk just beneath the surface; his was the first naked butt I'd seen on a movie screen. I was 14. 'Nuff said.

My vote also for the Zeffirelli version. Wonderful that it was played by such a young couple and oh he of the lovely bum. I was 16. Way too much said! Yet, Shakespeare in Love still stirs my heart! Unrequited love never looked so beautiful!
