Wicked Good Fun: The First 14 Minutes of A Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones Exclusive Preview

Last night, fans of George R.R. Martin's epic series A Song of Ice and Fire were treated to a special preview of the first 14 minutes of the eagerly awaited HBO adaptation, A Game of Thrones. The network promised that heads would roll, and boy, did they ever (over ice, down chopping blocks—you get the picture)! Mostly, though, the preview just left us wanting MORE—we didn't even get to meet the gorgeous, if apparently slightly morally bankrupt (hey! Don't accuse us of spoilers!), Jaime Lannister.

Did you watch? Did you like? (And is it April 17th yet?)

Watched and loooooved! The forest part was so creepy that I was having nightmares about that little girl for ages (and I thought the sounds were eerily effective in that as well, with the underlying tones of ice cracking.) I've read the books but I still gasped when the little girl turned around and was reanimated. Did I mention that the little girl scared me?

As for the Stark family gathering, I thought it did a wonderful job of establishing the different personalities of the kids (with very little dialogue - Arya didn't have to say a word and we still knew where she was coming from. And the look between Jon and Catelyn. Oof! That was almost as cold as the creepy forest!)

Slightly morally bankrupt! heh. I do love Jaime.

It made me want more, definitely. It had the feel of the books, too. I'm still apprehensive about Dany, I just can't get used to the look of her. But, could be I've been picturing her all wrong. I was disappointed when Ehle had to drop out, but I love this Catelyn too.

The only person who didn't look like I'd pictured him is Jon Snow, but I think that's just me. I just wish he were . . . kinda hotter. I know that's wrong.

@reginathorne -- ITA about how well they set things up with very little dialogue. As a Jon fan and as the child of divorced (and remarried) parents, I have to say that Catelyn's treatment of him made me very much dislike her at first (why punish a kid for something your husband did and can never take back? sending him away won't really change anything, and doesn't Jon deserve a father as much as the next kid?). But she's very loyal to her family and has grown on me.

@RobinBradford -- I hear you about Dany. Maybe it's the hair? Think the wig (and Cersei's too) may take some getting used to. It doesn't look natural.

@MFrampton -- I kid you not, I thought the SAME thing when I first saw the pictures. But I think he's much hotter in action.

I watched, and thought that 15 minutes went way too fast. They did a really good job of the beginning. I knew what was coming and still got freaked out. I was hoping we would at least get to see the Stark kids meet their new "pets". Will just have to eagerly wait the 2 weeks.
