Wouldn't you like to get the body of a 25 year-old on your 50th birthday?
No, not like that; see, Mattel's Ken turns 50 this year, and the toy company decided it was time for Ken's image to get more . . . 21st century. So they ran a contest to find the real-life inspiration for Ken, titled “Genuine Ken: The Search for the Great American Boyfriend.”
And they ended up with a 25 year-old former football player. Although, just to clear things up, Ken's body isn't necessarily modeled precisely after Kurtis Taylor's; in fact, it's “kind of inspired by some of today’s teenage heartthrobs, like Justin Bieber and Zac Efron . . . his body is a little more muscled.” So what inspiration did Taylor provide? Apparently, he's a “personification of Ken’s new ethos,” which means he has new skills, including cooking, decorating, surfing and entertaining (whatever that means).
But they didn't
ask us who we'd choose (and it sure as hell wouldn't be either Justin or Zac, bless their scrawny little hearts). A brief survey of the office came up with a few different options; take a look at our choices, and then let us know who you think would make the perfect Ken.
