First Look: Kristen Ashley’s The Deep End (March 7, 2017)

The Deep End by Kristen Ashley

Kristen Ashley
The Deep End (Honey Series #1)
St. Martin's Griffin / March 7, 2017 / $15.99 print, $3.99 digital

If you never have read a Kristen Ashley book, this quick note is for you about her books—otherwise, you can skip to the review.  She is the queen of writing the strongest, most powerful, and HOTTEST Alpha males.  Her style of writing is direct and straight to the point.

With that said, when I heard that this author was releasing an erotic book about a hero that is an alpha sub, I got concerned because I had never heard of an alpha being a submissive. It just doesn’t even sound right—like it’s an oxymoronic statement.  Let me be real; I haven’t read a book I didn’t like that she wrote, and I enjoy her alpha male hero in her books and the story she spins around them, but I have to say I was very skeptical on how she was going to make this work.  I’m used to powering my way through her books because of a funny scene or a one line statement from the hero that makes your heart squeeze.  Her her alpha males' one-liners are legendary, which drove me to really want to find out the direction of a story. I dove in praying that this story would be believable and have the same effect on me that her other books do.

When I first started reading the book, I got a firm layout of where I was and what was going on in The Honey club (BDSM), who the characters were, their personality traits and why they were there.  So far, the first three chapters just covered the bases of this world but not the real story to come.  So, I powered through and hoped that she could convince me how this Alpha/Sub thing was going to work.

Colleen Hoover’s It Ends With Us Is a GoodReads Choice Winner for a Reason

It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover

I had my dukes up and I was ready to rumble. For me, there is no other book this year that came close to the complete package that this story is all about. I came prepared, practiced, focused and ready to defend this epic book. Colleen Hoover's It Ends With Us ends the year with the Best Romance Book Award! And it was!

Need convincing?

First off -> This book has every component of a perfect romance. The main plot centers around at least two people, there’s several sub plots, the main characters struggle with love and injustice, and the story is extremely sweet and extremely hot at some points of the book. Yes, it has all that stuff and much, much more. What makes it a romance book of the year is that it doesn’t just make the grade, or is just a “good” book; it goes above and beyond.

First Look: J.B. Salsbury’s Split (November 15, 2016)

Split by J.B. Salsbury

J.B. Salsbury
Split
Forever / November 15, 2016 / $13.99 print, $3.99 digital

Author J.B. Salsbury is not new to me at all; I have been one of her biggest fans ever since she published her first book in the Fighting series of hot alpha male MMA Fighters and their girls. So to my excitement, I heard about this book that she was publishing through Forever Romance and I just read the blurb and I was hooked! Warning: This is a page-turner read so give yourself plenty of time to finish this book in one sitting.

Lucas has spent the first half of his life protecting himself from others, but now his own mind is his biggest enemy.  He doesn’t know what happens when the blackouts overtake him, but can recall the feelings-the rage, the confusion the fear.

This is about a young man named Lucas who has split personality disorder (dissociative identity disorder to be more accurate) and somehow finds his way to this small town that knows nothing about him. All they know is that he is quiet and keeps to himself. The heroine, Shyann, who is Lucas’s boss’s daughter, comes back to town with her own mysterious reason. Shyann is beautiful of course and also has this very strong personality with a very clear path she envisions her life should go. When I read the back story of why coming back was so horrible to her it really peaked my interest instantly and I started rooting for her throughout the story. After meeting Lucas, the sparks fly between them, but there is something that holds him back from Shyann. That’s when the book takes off and it really gets interesting.

First Look: Nina Bocci and Alice Clayton’s Roman Crazy (September 13, 2016)

Romance Crazy by Nina Bocci and Alice Clayton

Ninna Bocci and Alice Clayton
Roman Crazy
Gallery / September 13, 2016 / $16.00 print, $7.99 digital

Who wants to go to Italy?

Hands up for this girl!

Roman Crazy is a standalone book from Nina Bocci and Alice Clayton, who teamed up to write together. They brought us to Rome, Italy in this second-chance romance with a very relatable and newly single woman who is looking to get a fresh start in her life, and we get to ride along the journey in Rome. So what does this mean? Well, let me break it down for you: Rome + Crazy = fantastic! Who doesn’t want to go off to a foreign country after you’ve gotten your heartbroken and do a whole 180 and want to stick it to the ex who wronged you.

This story is such a relatable story in the point of view of Avery (the cheated-on wife). You root for her throughout the book to be successful without the ex husband, know oneself, or be oneself, and be courageous and show him—and everyone else—that he can’t keep you down. And of course Avery has her girlfriends in her corner, rooting for her to overcome those obstacles.

First Look: Kirsty Moseley’s Fighting to be Free (September 6, 2016)

Fighting to be Free by Kirsty Moseley

Kirsty Moseley
Fighting to be Free
Forever/ September 6, 2016/ $14.99 print $3.99 digital

Calling all teen bad boy lovers!  Guess what - I have a book for you. This former bad boy turned good guy with a bit dark part but equally a bit good part has great intentions of doing good. Fighting to be Free by Kirsty Moseley has the perfect teen lead guy who will make your heart swell. All his life people have told him he was born bad.  Maybe it’s true or maybe it’s not. It doesn’t matter now because now he has meet his Angel.

Although at first glance he may seem like this menace to society, but you will quickly learn that he is so far from that. Author Kirsty Moseley first grabbed my attention when I read The Boy Who Sneaks in My Bedroom years ago, so when I saw that she was releasing this book I jumped at that chance; I remember myself devouring her book in one setting. In Fighting to be Free the author again did a masterful job of mixing adult content and teenage romance together which makes the story seem more real. With New Adult challenges these teenage leading characters tackle very mature for their age problems.

“This is my fresh start. The place had at least given a fighting chance. I didn’t want to go back to that life I’d led before all this happened; I couldn’t live like that any longer. I was determined to change.”
